management
Despite widely accepted testing protocols, challenges still exist in
the
management of hepatitis D
- If hep D antibodies are detected, hepatitis D virus (HDV) RNA tests should be conducted to diagnose active HDV infection1
- It is important to monitor ALT and inflammatory markers for those testing positive1
- For HDV-positive patients with elevated ALT, assess fibrosis and monitor HDV RNA and ALT every 3 months2
There are currently no FDA-approved therapies for hepatitis delta2
Treatment with hepatitis B nucleo(s)tide analogs is ineffective in HDV1
